Ellmau, Alpine municipality in Kufstein district, Austria
Ellmau is a municipality in Kufstein district located at 820 meters (2,690 feet) between the Wilder Kaiser and Hartkaiser ranges. The settlement extends across gentle slopes with meadows and farmsteads that open toward both mountain chains.
The first mention dates from 1155 when this settlement was part of rural farmland. Over centuries the village grew into an administrative center within the Sölllandl region.
The local museum displays traditional costumes and tools from the valley in rotating exhibitions. The parish church serves as a venue for Advent concerts where musicians from nearby villages perform.
The village sits centrally in Sölllandl and offers direct access to hiking trails into both mountain groups. Municipal offices provide digital forms and information on waste collection services.
The Ellmauer Sattel forms a natural watershed separating Inn and Großache river systems. Both waterways diverge here through terrain shape into opposite drainage directions.
