Infinity Terrace
The Infinity Terrace is a broad viewing platform within Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, perched on a rocky promontory high above the coastline. It commands a view of the Mediterranean Sea, the rocky cliffs below, and distant towns, all framed by local stone with marble busts and an old stone balustrade.
Villa Cimbrone traces back to Roman times and was long a farm before noble families took it over in the 11th century. In the early 20th century, English owner Lord Grimthorpe purchased the estate and created the Terrace of Infinity along with surrounding gardens blending English and Italian design styles.
The name 'Terrace of Infinity' reflects how visitors experience the feeling of looking endlessly into the distance. The terrace is lined with marble busts from the 18th century that catch the sunlight, and these sculptures shape how people understand this as a place where art and nature meet.
The estate is easy to reach, about 15 minutes on foot from Ravello's center, and sits on the scenic Amalfi Coast. Wear comfortable shoes since paths are uneven and the terrain slopes uphill, and bring water and sun protection, especially on sunny days.
A small statue of Mercury sits below the terrace in the shade with an inscription inviting visitors to pause and reflect. The placement near this god figure was intentional, creating a moment of quiet thought within this space of vast views.
