Cascate Mundu e Galasia
Cascate Mundu e Galasia are waterfalls in the Aspromonte Park near Molochio located in a steep valley surrounded by forest. The larger cascade drops about 40 meters (130 feet), while a smaller one sits nearby; both are fed by the Barvi stream flowing through dense woodland home to rare fern species.
The area was part of ancient human settlement and is now regarded as the prehistoric heart of Aspromonte Park. The waterfalls were gradually discovered by trekking enthusiasts and have become an established hiking destination in the region.
The trail is about 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) long and requires sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing since the terrain is steep. Check local conditions before visiting, as rain and muddy sections can affect accessibility on certain days.
Nearby grows the rare fern species Woodwardia radicans, a living fossil found only in a few places across southern Italy and thriving only in very humid conditions. This ancient plant can be observed directly along the stream during a visit.
