Pertisau
Pertisau is a small village on the western shore of Lake Achensee in Tyrol, situated at roughly 950 meters in elevation. The settlement is composed primarily of hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants that line the waterfront, providing accommodations and dining for visitors.
Pertisau first appears in a written record from the 14th century, originating from the monastic period. The Habsburgs used the area for hunting and fishing from the 15th century onward, visiting the valley regularly until the end of World War I.
The village's name comes from an old word for wetland, reflecting its waterside location at the lake's edge. Walking through Pertisau, you notice locals and visitors moving slowly along the lakeshore, stopping at cafes to look out over the water and mountains.
Pertisau is easily reached by car and sits about 20 kilometers from Jenbach railway station, where buses and a historic cogwheel train connect to the area. Visitors can use free buses that operate around the lake or take a leisurely paddle steamer ride across the water.
The village has produced Achensee Beer since 2010, a local brew that reflects the mountain air and lake water in its taste and is served in local cafes and hotels. Many visitors try it and bring bottles home as a memory of their time here.
