Seppeltsfield Wines
Seppeltsfield is a winery in the Barossa Valley in South Australia spread across grounds with historic stone buildings. The estate features a cellar door for tastings, restaurants, art galleries, craft shops, and the famous Centennial Cellar from 1878, where thousands of barrels are stored in continuous rows dating back to the 1870s.
The winery was founded in 1851 by Joseph Ernst Seppelt, a Prussian who originally planned to grow tobacco but switched to wine production after grapes thrived on the land. The Centennial Cellar began in 1878 when Benno Seppelt decided to set aside wine each year to age for a century before bottling and selling it.
The name Seppeltsfield comes from Joseph Ernst Seppelt, a Prussian immigrant who founded the winery in 1851. The estate reflects this heritage through its architecture and the way visitors experience the long tradition of family winemaking passed down through generations.
The estate is open daily for tours and tastings with advance booking recommended. Free parking is available, along with Wifi, wheelchair access, and outdoor seating areas, while an on-site lodge provides accommodation for overnight stays.
The 100-year-old Para Tawny program is unique in the world: since 1878, the winery sets aside wine each year to age for exactly a century, then bottles and sells it. This means visitors can taste a wine that is an entire century old and available nowhere else.
