Ranger's House
Ranger's House is a Georgian mansion beside Greenwich Park in London, built in red brick with Palladian style features. The building holds the Wernher Collection, containing nearly 700 artworks ranging from Old Master paintings and Renaissance items to medieval jewelry and decorative objects.
The house was built around 1722 for Captain Francis Hosier, a successful naval officer and trader. From 1816 onwards it served as the residence of the Greenwich Park ranger, giving it its name, and was later acquired by Sir Julius Wernher to house his renowned art collection.
The house gained recognition as the fictional home of the Bridgerton family in the popular Netflix series, linking it to contemporary culture. Visitors often recognize its Georgian style and grand rooms from this modern production.
The house sits in Blackheath adjacent to Greenwich Park and is easily reached on foot. Visitors should know the building is currently closed but is expected to reopen in 2026 with guided tours available.
Sir Julius Wernher humorously described his collection as "splendidly ugly" because the artworks were crafted with rich materials and intricate details. This unique perspective reveals how he valued the technical mastery and craftsmanship as much as the visual appeal.
