King Abdulaziz Equestrian Field, horse racing track in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
King Abdulaziz Equestrian Field is a racecourse in Riyadh where horses run on two different surfaces for various racing events. The original dirt track of about 2000 meters was expanded in 2020 with a grass track of 1800 meters, offering options for different types of races.
The field opened in 2003 and replaced a smaller racing site from 1965 that had become too small for major competitions. This larger new venue quickly became the country's center for horse racing events.
Horse racing here runs deep in local tradition and brings many people from the region together. You will often see visitors in traditional dress at the events, showing the cultural importance of the sport to the community.
The field has parking and is accessible by car and taxi, though it is best to arrive a bit early to get a good spot and enjoy the atmosphere. Races typically run Wednesday through Saturday between 2 and 9 PM, and the venue is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
The Saudi Cup is the richest horse race in the world with a prize of 20 million dollars, drawing top horses from different countries to compete. This event takes place in mid-February and is the country's most important social event of the year.
