Via Ferrata du Vidourle, Climbing route in Saint-Seriès, France
The Via Ferrata du Vidourle is an equipped climbing route next to the Vidourle River near Saint-Seriès in southern France. The path follows a limestone rock face fitted with chains, ladders, and metal bars at varying difficulty levels, allowing visitors to both climb and walk along the route.
The limestone rocks were shaped and eroded by the Vidourle River over many centuries. In recent times, the rock face was equipped with metal installations to make climbing accessible to a wider range of visitors and meet growing interest in outdoor sports.
The name 'Via Ferrata' comes from Italian meaning 'iron path', describing the route equipped with metal installations. Today the route brings together families and climbing groups who explore the rocks together, creating shared moments of outdoor adventure in nature.
The route is best visited in spring or early autumn when temperatures are comfortable and paths are dry. Wear sturdy shoes, gloves, and comfortable clothes, as metal safety gear is provided and the whole experience takes about an hour and a half.
A distinctive feature is a zip line installed in 2010 to ease movement on a more challenging section. Visitors can also try a 35 meter rappel descent or cross a monkey bridge to vary their experience on the route.
