Homeless Jesus Statue, Statue in Dublin, Ireland
The Homeless Jesus statue is a bronze sculpture placed outside Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland. It shows a figure lying on a park bench, and the only clue to its identity are the wounds visible on the feet.
The sculpture was created by Canadian artist Timothy Schmalz and installed in Dublin in November 2019. It was donated by an anonymous benefactor and blessed by local church leaders, including the Archbishop of Dublin.
The statue shows Jesus as a homeless man lying on a park bench, with no crown or special clothing to identify him. This way of depicting Jesus invites passersby to think about the people they might walk past on the street every day.
The sculpture stands directly in front of Christ Church Cathedral in the historic center of Dublin and is easy to spot from the street. It can be visited at any time and is located in an area that sees a steady flow of both visitors and locals.
The same model of this sculpture has been placed in cities around the world, including Madrid and Rome. The first version was unveiled in 2014 in a small town in North Carolina, several years before the Dublin piece was installed.
