Manchester Peace Garden, Planned garden in Manchester, United Kingdom
Manchester Peace Garden is a planned garden in Lincoln Square on Brazenose Street, in central Manchester. It is intended to replace an earlier garden that stood in St Peter's Square before being removed in 2014.
The original Peace Garden stood in St Peter's Square and featured a sculpture called Messenger of Peace by artist Barbara Pearson. It was cleared in 2014 to make way for new tram lines and work on the square.
Since the garden is still being planned, it is worth checking its current status before visiting. Lincoln Square is close to the center of Manchester and easy to reach on foot.
Ginkgo trees grown from specimens connected to Hiroshima are being prepared for the new garden, brought from Dunham Massey, creating a link between Manchester and the Japanese city. The original plaques and memorials from the old garden have been kept in storage and may appear again in the new space.
