The Defense Intelligence Service, Military intelligence agency and government department in Copenhagen, Denmark
The Service de Renseignement de la Défense is the Danish military intelligence agency, based in Copenhagen and operating under the Danish Ministry of Defence. It is responsible for gathering and assessing information related to national security, working in close coordination with Denmark's armed forces and allied partners.
The Danish military intelligence service traces its roots to the Cold War period, when Denmark began building up its intelligence capabilities in a more structured way. Since then, it has gone through several reorganizations to adapt to new threats and shifting international contexts.
The Danish military intelligence service is known locally as Efterretningsstyrelsen, a name that simply means "the intelligence agency" in Danish. The building presents a plain, understated face to the street, with nothing on the outside hinting at what happens inside.
As an active military and government facility, the site is not open to the public. Those passing through the area in Copenhagen can observe the building from the outside, but should expect all access to be restricted.
Although it is a military intelligence service, the agency communicates through publicly available news updates and occasionally shares details about its international cooperation efforts. This level of openness is unusual for an intelligence body and reflects a broader Danish tradition of institutional transparency.
