Gadagne Museum Park, Park in Lyon's 5th arrondissement, France
The Parc du musée Gadagne is a small rooftop garden on the fifth floor of the Gadagne Museum in Lyon's 5th arrondissement, in the heart of the old city. It covers around 700 square meters and sits directly above the inner courtyards of the Renaissance building that also houses the city history museum and the puppet museum.
The building that supports the garden is a Renaissance palace from the 16th and 17th centuries, listed as a historic monument. The garden itself was opened after the museum's renovation and planted with support from the Lyon Botanical Garden.
The Parc du musée Gadagne sits in the Renaissance district of old Lyon, where stone facades from the 16th and 17th centuries line the narrow streets. The rooftop garden follows the planting style of Renaissance gardens, offering a view over the traditional Roman-tiled rooftops of the old city.
The garden is open Wednesday through Sunday and can be reached directly by taking the elevator on the right side of the museum to the fifth floor. No separate entry fee is needed for the garden itself, as access is through the museum entrance.
The garden sits on top of a private Renaissance palace and is one of the very few rooftop gardens in old Lyon that the public can actually enter. From up there, visitors see the backs of buildings and angles of the old city that are never visible from street level.
