Zoo d'Upie - Le jardin aux oiseaux, Animal park in Upie, Drôme, France
Zoo d'Upie - Le jardin aux oiseaux is an animal park in Upie, in the Drôme region of France, covering around 15 acres (6 hectares) and housing over 800 animals from roughly 180 species. Alongside birds such as parrots and birds of prey, the park is also home to servals, meerkats, lemurs, and tortoises.
The park started as a modest local project and grew gradually over the years as new species and facilities were added. It became a regular destination for families and school groups in the area.
The zoo is known for its birds of prey flight shows, which run from April through October and take place on a regular schedule. Watching these birds fly overhead gives visitors a direct sense of how they move and hunt in the wild.
Allow enough time to walk through all the different sections at a relaxed pace, especially if you want to catch one of the birds of prey shows. The park also has a mini farm and a play area for young children, so it is worth planning the visit around these stops.
The park offers experiences where visitors can share a snack with lemurs, pelicans, and meerkats in close proximity, which is uncommon for a park of this size. This direct contact with the animals is something children tend to remember long after the visit.
