The Jardin de Valombreuse is a botanical garden in Petit-Bourg, on the southern coast of Guadeloupe. It brings together tropical flowers, orchids, palm trees, water gardens, a bamboo grove, and open enclosures where birds like hummingbirds, flamingos, and macaws fly freely.
The garden was created to gather and display tropical plants from around the world, and over time it grew into one of Guadeloupe's most visited natural sites. New sections were added across the years, including the bird enclosures and the Creole garden, which expanded the original plant-focused project.
The garden includes a section called the Jardin Créole, planted with fruit trees, medicinal plants, and crops that have long been part of island life. Walking through it gives a sense of how people in Guadeloupe have used plants in their daily routines for generations.
The paths are flat and clearly marked, making the garden easy to get around for most visitors, including families with children. A small train runs through part of the grounds for those who prefer not to walk the whole route.
Every afternoon at 3, visitors can feed lorikeets, colorful parrots originally from Australia that are not native to the Caribbean. It is one of the few places in Guadeloupe where you can get that close to these birds.
