Parc Madeleine Riffaud, City park in Saint-Denis, France
Parc Madeleine Riffaud is a city park in Saint-Denis, north of Paris, and is one of the largest green spaces in the city. It has wide paths, a central meadow, a pétanque area, two dog runs, a shared garden, and play areas for children.
The park was reopened after a major renovation that merged several small green spaces into one and reclaimed land along nearby roads. The renaming in honor of Madeleine Riffaud took place as part of this redesign.
The park is named after Madeleine Riffaud, a resistance fighter, poet, and communist activist who also worked as a journalist at L'Humanité. The city of Saint-Denis chose to honor women who fought for their convictions and who often receive less recognition than men.
The park sits near avenue Lénine and is easy to reach for anyone staying or living in the area. It is open throughout the day, and the wide paths make it easy to move around with a stroller or a wheelchair.
Land was reclaimed from nearby roads and departmental routes to expand the park, which considerably increased its total size. A skatepark is planned for 2027, making this a space that is still growing.
