Square Aimé Coulaudon, Garden square and park in Clermont-Ferrand, France
Square Aimé Coulaudon is a small garden square and park in the heart of Clermont-Ferrand, enclosed by buildings and trees. At its center stands a fountain relocated here in 2004, decorated with a rosette pattern drawn from the history of the surrounding area.
The fountain now in the square was first placed on the south side of Place de Jaude in 1985, before being moved to its current location in 2004 as part of a wider renewal of the area. At the time of the move, it was given its rosette pattern, a reference to the chapel of the former Beaurepaire convent.
The square is centrally located in Clermont-Ferrand and easy to reach on foot, as it sits close to Place de Jaude. It is open throughout the day and works well as a short stop during a walk around the city center.
The rosette pattern on the fountain was designed specifically to evoke the chapel of the Beaurepaire convent, which once stood nearby but has since completely disappeared. Anyone looking at the fountain today is, without knowing it, looking at a trace of a building that no longer exists.
