Square Amadéo, Garden square and park in Clermont-Ferrand, France
Place Amadéo is a garden square and small park in the center of Clermont-Ferrand, tucked between several neighborhood streets. It has shaded paths, flower beds, a small fountain, and benches arranged throughout the space.
Before the garden was laid out, this spot held a basilica dedicated to Saint Andrew, built around the 6th century. Nothing of that building remains visible today, but the site carries the memory of that religious past.
Place Amadéo sits between Rue Antoine Menat and Rue Jean-Baptiste Torrilhon, with two gates that open directly from the street. Dogs are welcome on a leash, which makes it a daily stop for many neighbors walking their pets.
The garden opens early in the morning and closes in the late afternoon or evening depending on the season. In summer, hours may be extended, sometimes allowing a visit well into the evening.
The garden is home to an old chestnut tree said to be the only one of its kind in the city. In summer, it is sometimes opened at the same time as the nearby Jardin Lecoq, letting visitors stroll through two gardens on the same evening.
