Bewl Water is a reservoir in the High Weald area of Kent, surrounded by woodland and farmland. Trails run along the shoreline and through the trees, and the water is used for activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing.
The reservoir was created in the 1970s to supply water to Kent and Sussex. Over time, the surrounding land was opened to visitors, and the site gradually became a destination for outdoor activities.
A trail runs all the way around the reservoir and is open to walkers and cyclists, though some sections can get muddy after rain. Sturdy shoes are a good idea, especially for the wooded stretches.
The reservoir sits on the border between Kent and East Sussex, so walking around the shore technically crosses into two counties. Dogs are welcome on most of the trails, and there are wash-down stations on site for muddy paws at the end of a walk.
