The Centre historique is the old town of Cisternino, a hill town in Puglia, southern Italy. Its streets are narrow and paved with stone, lined with whitewashed buildings, arched passages, and small squares that open up unexpectedly as you walk.
Cisternino grew from a medieval settlement, and the layout of the old town still follows the pattern of those early centuries. The Torre Normanno Sveva, built by Frederick II in the 12th or 13th century, is one of the clearest surviving traces of that era.
