Catholic Church of St. Ursula, Catholic church in Oberursel (Taunus), Germany

The Église catholique Sainte-Ursula is a stone church on a hill near the center of Oberursel (Taunus), Germany. Its tower rises above the surrounding rooftops and can be seen from many points around town.

Before the year 876, a small monastery dedicated to Saint Ursula stood on this hill. The current building was constructed in stages from the mid-1400s onward, replacing older structures that archaeologists have traced back to the 12th century.

The church is dedicated to Saint Ursula, an early Christian martyr who has long been venerated along the Rhine region. Inside, visitors can see old paintings and relics that reflect the faith and local traditions kept alive over the centuries.

The church sits on a hill close to the center of Oberursel and is easy to reach on foot from most points in town. A visit to the tower gives a broad view over the town and is worth planning for a clear day.

One of the bells, known as Maria Craft, was cast in Mainz in 1508 and once fell from the tower during a fire without breaking. It survived even the Second World War, when many bells across Germany were melted down for metal.
