The land once belonged to a private estate before it was handed over to the city of Lausanne and turned into a public green space. Over time, the paths and lawns were laid out and maintained for general use.
The park bears the name of Louis Bourget, a 19th-century Lausanne politician, as noted on a sign near the entrance. On warm days, the lawns fill with students and families sharing meals on the grass, making it one of the most used outdoor meeting points in the city.
