Port des Minimes, Marina and harbour in La Rochelle, France
Port des Minimes is a large marina in La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast of France, divided into four basins called Bout Blanc, Marillac, Lazaret, and Tamaris. Each basin accommodates boats of different sizes, and along the many jetties sailing boats and motorboats sit moored side by side.
La Rochelle was for centuries one of the most active trading ports on the French Atlantic coast, and Port des Minimes developed later as a dedicated marina to meet the growing demand for leisure boating. Over time the main channel was deepened and the infrastructure expanded to welcome larger vessels.
Port des Minimes has a strong connection to competitive sailing, and along the docks you can spot small racing boats called sport monotypes sitting alongside private yachts. This mix of leisure boaters and competitive sailors gives the place a character that feels very much alive when you walk along the jetties.
Around 300 berths are set aside for visiting boats, and the harbourmaster's office is staffed all day if you need assistance. Shower facilities are free for customers and open around the clock, and free Wi-Fi is available across the site.
The Tour Richelieu lighthouse guides boats into the port day and night, and it becomes especially important at low tide when navigating the approach gets harder. A weather information station at the harbourmaster's office gives sailors an updated forecast each morning before they head out.
