Waterfalls Nidri, Waterfall near Nydri, Lefkada, Greece
The Chutes d'eau Nidri, also known as the Dimossari Waterfall, is a natural waterfall on the edge of the village of Nydri, on the island of Lefkada in Greece. The water runs over limestone rocks through a forested gorge, forming a small pool at the base before continuing toward the sea.
The waterfall is fed by underground sources deep in the mountains of Lefkada and has been part of the local landscape for many generations. Its closeness to the port of Nydri gradually made it a known stop for travelers arriving by sea.
The gorge leading to the Dimossari waterfall is a place locals and visitors use to escape the heat of summer, often arriving with a towel and something to eat. The sound of water reaches you before the falls come into view, which gives the walk a slow, anticipatory rhythm.
The waterfall is reached by a short walk from the center of Nydri, with a parking area and a tavern near the trailhead. The path crosses uneven ground and rock steps, so sturdy shoes are a good idea, especially if the terrain is wet after rain.
The waterfall runs year-round, but its strength depends heavily on the season, with the flow at its fullest in spring and sometimes reduced to a trickle by midsummer. Visitors who come mainly to swim tend to plan their trip before June for this reason.
