Collegiate church, Collegiate church in Obermarsberg, Germany

The Église Collegiale is a medieval church in Obermarsberg, the upper part of Marsberg, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It has an octagonal tower topped with a low rounded dome, a three-aisle layout, and ribbed vaults running along the ceiling.

The church was first mentioned in writing in the late 13th century, when townspeople pledged to build it for a bishop after relocating to a new part of town. A strong storm in the 19th century destroyed the tower's spire, which was then replaced by the low rounded dome visible today.

The church is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, patron of merchants, which points to a trading past in the region. Inside, stained-glass windows from the 19th century tell the story of Duke Widukind, the Saxon leader who converted to Christianity.

The church sits in the center of Obermarsberg and is easy to reach on foot from the town's main streets. Visiting on a weekday tends to be quieter, making it easier to look around the inside at your own pace.

Carved into one of the church's walls are three large stone heads said to represent figures such as Charlemagne and Otto I. This rare detail ties the building directly to the rulers who shaped the region during the early medieval period.
