Poros Archaeological Museum, Museum on the Greek island of Poros

The Archaeological Museum of Poros is a museum located in the center of the Greek island town of Poros, on Korizi Square. Its collection spans from the Mycenaean period to Roman times and includes objects found on the island and along the nearby coastline.

The museum opened in 1960 on a plot where a house belonging to Prime Minister Alexandros Koryzis once stood. Over time, excavations on the island and in the surrounding Argolida region, including the temple of Poseidon at Vayionia, gradually filled its rooms.

The museum is within easy walking distance of the ferry dock, making it a natural stop after arriving by boat from Piraeus. Entry is free on certain public holidays, so it is worth checking before your visit.

Among the displays is a plaster cast of an inscription linked to the speech Themistocles used to rally the Greeks against the Persians, a replica that gives real weight to an otherwise abstract historical event. The museum also holds a large stone relief of a dog, an unusual survival that shows how animals were represented in the ancient world.
