Amelie Beach, Beach in Soulac-sur-Mer, France
Plage de l'Amélie is a sandy beach in the hamlet of Amélie, on the southern edge of Soulac-sur-Mer along the Atlantic coast of France. The beach is lined with a few rocks and has a parking area, public restrooms, and an access path suitable for people with reduced mobility.
The hamlet of Amélie was once a small fishing community where local people used the shore as part of their daily work. Over time it became a summer destination, while the chapel that gives the place its name remained as a local landmark.
During summer a section of the beach is supervised by a lifeguard, and it is best to swim within that marked area. The beach is easy to reach by bike along the Vélodyssée coastal cycling route, and dogs are not allowed during the summer season.
A small chapel stands right behind the beach and gave its name to the entire hamlet, and in turn to the beach itself. This modest building comes as a surprise to many visitors who expect nothing but sand and sea.
