Troll Wall, Summit in Romsdalen, Norway

The Troll Wall (Trollveggen) is a vertical rock face in the Romsdalen valley of Norway, considered the tallest vertical rock face in Europe. It belongs to the Trolltindene mountain range and rises about 1,100 meters above the valley floor, with the summit slightly overhanging its base.

The first ascent of the Troll Wall was completed in 1965 by a Norwegian team, just one day ahead of a British group that established the well-known Rimmon Route. A large rockfall in 1998 permanently altered several climbing routes on the face.

The Troll Wall is best viewed from the visitor center in the Romsdalen valley, which offers a direct line of sight to the full rock face. Getting close to the base of the wall is not recommended due to frequent rockfall.

Carl Boenish, who helped popularize BASE jumping from the Troll Wall in the 1980s, died there in 1984 during a jump. BASE jumping has been banned at the site since 1986, yet some jumpers still attempt it secretly during summer months.
