Trollryggen, Mountain summit in Rauma Municipality, Norway

Trollryggen is a mountain summit in the Trolltindane range with an elevation of about 1725 meters and features distinctive rock formations and steep cliffs. The peak is part of a larger mountain complex that attracts both hikers and climbers.

The north face was first climbed in winter during 1973 by Polish mountaineers Wojciech Kurtyka, Marek Kęsicki, Ryszard Kowalewski, and Tadeusz Piotrowski. This ascent became a milestone in climbing history and helped put the region's routes on the international map.

The name Trollryggen comes from Norwegian folklore and refers to mythical creatures that feature prominently in regional legends and stories. Such naming traditions are common throughout these mountains and shape how locals connect with the landscape.

The best time to visit and climb is during the summer months when conditions are more favorable and the weather tends to be more stable. Visitors should know that technical gear is needed for the demanding routes and climbing experience is essential.

The north face is part of Trollveggen, which ranks as Europe's tallest vertical rock wall. This distinction makes the area a world-known destination for specialized climbers and mountaineers.
