Trollstigen
Trollstigen is a viewpoint in Norway with two modern platforms made of steel and glass integrated into the mountainside. A platform hanging 200 meters above the famous Trollstigen road offers a direct view of the steep cliffs and Stigfossen waterfall below.
The site was originally a mountain path connecting local communities in the 1800s and used for annual markets. The road was completed in 1936 and has since become one of Norway's most famous routes.
The name Trollstigen refers to trolls from Norwegian folklore believed to inhabit these steep mountains. Visitors today experience how the landscape connects to the local stories that have shaped the region.
The viewpoints are fully accessible from May to September, though the road may close during winter months due to snow and ice. It is best to check current information before visiting and use parking near the plateau facilities.
The two platforms were specifically designed by architect Reiulf Ramstad to blend seamlessly into the mountainside. The design uses local stone materials and modern glass elements to balance contemporary architecture with the natural setting.
