Gudbrandsjuvet, Gorge and tourist attraction in Fjord, Norway

Gudbrandsjuvet is a gorge and tourist attraction in Fjord, Norway, where the Valldøla river is forced through a narrow gap in the rock, carving deep potholes and small waterfalls. A small café sits near the entrance, and wooden walkways follow the edge of the gorge so visitors can look directly down into the rushing water.

The gorge was known to travelers passing through the Valldal valley long before it became a formal stop, and by the 19th century it had already drawn visitors curious about the dramatic rock formations. Over the following decades, wooden walkways were built to guide people safely along the edge.

The wooden walkways can be slippery when wet, so sturdy shoes are a good idea before heading out over the gorge. The café near the entrance is a convenient spot to stop before or after the walk.

The round holes worn into the rock along the gorge are called potholes and were shaped not by the river alone but by stones spinning in the current for centuries, grinding the rock from within. Some of these holes are deep enough to stand inside.
