The Château de la Borde is a private château in Saint-Denis-sur-Loire, in the Loire Valley. The main building dates in part from the 16th century and was extended over the following centuries with the addition of pavilions and outbuildings.
The property traces back to a farm that was already linked to the land of Saint-Denis in the 14th century. In the 17th century it passed to the Hurault family, who had been established in the region for two centuries.
The Château de la Borde sits across the boundary of two former parishes, which is unusual for a property of this type in the Loire Valley. This split origin is still visible in the way the grounds are laid out, with two distinct sections that reflect the old division.
The château is privately owned and cannot be visited from the inside, but it can be seen from the outside. A visit pairs well with a walk through the surrounding area of Saint-Denis-sur-Loire.
The outbuildings were damaged during the German occupation in World War II, and their restoration is still ongoing today. A large wooden staircase installed in the 19th century survives in its original form inside the main building.
