Plaža Petrovac, Beach in Petrovac, Montenegro
Plaža Petrovac is a sandy beach in the center of the small coastal town of Petrovac, Montenegro. It slopes gently into the sea and runs along a promenade lined with cafes and small shops.
Petrovac was once a small fishing village known in the Middle Ages as Castel Lastva under Venetian rule. In the early 20th century it took its current name in honor of King Peter I.
At the northern end of the beach stands a small Venetian fortress from the 16th century, now used as a lookout point. In summer, open-air concerts and film screenings sometimes take place within its walls.
The beach is a short walk from the town center, making it easy to come and go at any time of day. Mornings tend to be quieter and are a good time to find space on the sand.
The sand at Petrovac beach has a slightly reddish tone caused by the local rock composition, giving the shore an uncommon color. Early in the morning, local fishermen sometimes pass through with their boats before the first swimmers arrive.
