Bosquet Nord, Deciduous grove and lawn in Sceaux, France

Bosquet Nord is a deciduous grove with open lawn areas within the Domaine départemental de Sceaux, a large park south of Paris. It is made up mostly of trees that shed their leaves in autumn, crossed by paths that wind gently through the shade.

The Domaine de Sceaux was laid out in the 17th century as a private estate with formal gardens before being gradually opened to the public. The grove as it exists today is part of that long transition from private grounds to public park.

In spring, the grove draws visitors who come to watch the Japanese cherry trees bloom, their pink flowers briefly covering the ground in petals. This short flowering season echoes the Japanese tradition of Hanami, the practice of gathering outdoors to appreciate cherry blossoms.

The grove sits within the Domaine de Sceaux and is open to visitors year-round at no charge. The paths are easy to follow on foot, though some sections may be less suited to pushchairs or wheelchairs depending on the season.

The cherry trees planted here belong to the Prunus serrulata 'Kanzan' variety, which produces no fruit and exists purely for its flowers. Their blooming period lasts only a few weeks each spring, which is what draws so many people at that specific time of year.
