Amami Museum, Museum in Amami, Japan

The Amami Museum is a museum in the Nagahama district of Naze, in the city of Amami on Amami Island, Japan. It is spread across three floors, each covering a different theme: daily life, history, and the island's natural environment.

Amami Island had close trading ties with Okinawa and other parts of Japan for centuries, which shaped much of its local culture. The museum holds artifacts from that period, showing how the island developed its own path between different influences.

The museum displays objects still used in local festivals today, including traditional clothing and household items. These give a direct sense of how the island's customs have been passed from one generation to the next.

The museum opens in the morning and closes around 5 p.m., with the last entry about 30 minutes before closing. Information panels are available in both Japanese and English, which helps international visitors follow the exhibits without difficulty.

One section of the museum focuses on how the Kuroshio Current influenced the daily lives of islanders, from fishing to trade routes. This maritime angle is often overlooked in the region, yet it played a major role in shaping the island's story.
