Centro Recreativo Nacional, Recreation area in Ezeiza, Argentina
The Ezeiza Woods National Recreational Center is a large open-air recreation area in the town of Ezeiza, in Buenos Aires Province, made up of forests, wetlands, and sports facilities. It is divided into several sections, including a national sports development center and an outdoor sports center, all connected by trails for walking and cycling.
The area was set aside by the Argentine state in the 20th century to protect its forests and offer a recreational space for people living near Buenos Aires. Over time, sports facilities were added, turning it from a protected woodland into a structured center for outdoor activities.
On weekends, it is common to see families setting up picnics under the trees while others ride bikes or skate along the paths. The woods feel like a shared outdoor living room for people from Ezeiza and the surrounding towns.
The area is large, so comfortable shoes and plenty of time are helpful for exploring the different zones. Weekends and holidays draw bigger crowds, so a visit on a weekday tends to be quieter.
Many of the trees in the woods were brought from Europe, including pines, eucalyptus, and paraíso trees, giving the forest an unexpected mix that feels different from typical Argentine native woodland. Walking through different parts of the area, the smell and sound change noticeably from one grove to the next.
