Alibey Adası is a small island off the coast of Balıkesir, in the Namık Kemal Mahallesi district of Turkey. It sits very close to the mainland and is reachable by a short ferry or boat ride.
The island was once a hub for local fishing, and its residents made their living from the sea. Over the decades it remained a modest place with small docks and simple houses, largely unchanged.
Many visitors walk along the waterfront and sit at one of the small cafes that line the shore. The narrow streets between low stone houses with tiled roofs are painted in soft white, beige, and pastel shades.
Amenities on the island are limited, so it is worth bringing sun protection, comfortable shoes, and enough water. The warmer months are the best time to visit, when the sea is inviting for swimming or boat trips.
The island's old pier is a gathering spot where fishermen sort their catch and visitors watch the sunset. You can sometimes see people quietly repairing boats or chatting along the waterfront there.
