Banc de la Treille, Wooden bench in Geneva, Switzerland
The Banc de la Treille is a wooden bench in Geneva, Switzerland. It stretches along the Promenade de la Treille and is made of many wooden planks set on stone and concrete supports.
The promenade was created in the early 16th century, making it the oldest in the city. The bench itself was built later and has been renovated over the years, with a major restoration in 2017.
The bench is a favourite spot for locals to sit and chat while looking out over the park and the city. Nearby, the official chestnut tree has been watched since 1818 to mark the start of spring.
The bench is easy to reach on foot from the old town and is open to everyone at any time. It is very long, so you will find space even when the promenade is crowded.
At 120.21 meters, it is considered the longest wooden bench in the world. It rests on 61 feet and is made of 212 seat planks and 79 back planks.
