Castle Kynžvart

Castle Kynžvart is a neoclassical manor with symmetrical facades and decorative columns set in a Bohemian spa town. Inside, around 25 rooms are furnished with furniture, paintings, and various collections that reflect the interests of its inhabitants.

The castle was transformed by Prince Klemens Metternich between 1821 and 1836, with architect Pietro Nobile contributing to the design of its new facades and interiors. Under Metternich's direction, it became a showpiece residence reflecting his position as one of Europe's most influential diplomats.

The chapel within the castle displays religious artwork and reflects the spiritual life of those who lived here. You can see how faith shaped the decoration and use of personal spaces throughout the residence.

The castle can only be visited with a guided tour that must be reserved in advance. Wear sturdy shoes since the rooms involve several staircases and different levels throughout the building.

The castle holds two Egyptian mummies: Qenamūn from the 18th Dynasty and Pentahutres from the 21st Dynasty, part of the private antiquities collection. Metternich acquired these mummies, revealing his fascination with non-European cultures and rare artifacts.
