Liběchov Castle, Baroque château in Liběchov, Czech Republic
Liběchov Castle is a baroque structure featuring ornamental details and substantial architectural elements developed mainly during the 18th century. The building sits along Litoměřická street and displays the characteristic features of this style.
The structure was originally built as a water fortress in the 14th century for defensive purposes. Major renovation work between 1720 and 1730 completely transformed its appearance into the current baroque design.
The Veith family shaped the castle's character during the 19th century through their stewardship of the property. Their influence remains visible in how the building reflects the tastes and values of that era.
The castle is not open to visitors, though the surrounding park remains accessible to the public and offers views of the exterior. Severe flood damage from 2002 has had lasting effects on the structure.
Despite being out of service since 2019, the castle maintains official status as a protected cultural monument in the Czech national registry. This designation underscores how the historical and architectural value of the site is recognized even without active use.
