Pařížov Dam, Water management dam in Pařížov, Czech Republic

Pařížov Dam is a gravity dam of quarry stone on the Doubrava river near Pařížov, built 1910–1913. Its crest is 142 m long and 4.50 m wide, its base 23 m wide, and its maximum height above the foundation joint is 31 m. The dam wall is curved, with a radius of 120 m.

Built between 1910 and 1913 by about 500 workers, the dam followed floods on the Doubrava in 1885, 1888 and 1897. A bypass tunnel and weir went up a year earlier to protect the works; the masonry cost 1.5 million Austrian crowns.

The dam is a listed technical monument of the Czech Republic. Its masonry face carries a double cement render with potassium soap, twice coated with siderosthene paint against seepage. Since 2020 the crown is closed to the public because the safety elements are in poor condition, so the structure is seen from the banks and the road.

The dam stands on the Doubrava near Pařížov, in the Běstvina municipality of the Chrudim district. Since 2020 the crest has been closed to the public because the safety elements are in poor condition, so the masonry wall can only be viewed from outside.

The bypass tunnel built before the dam, 142 m long with a 6 per mille gradient, now houses two 1,200 mm pipes installed in 2005; the old pipes were a winter roost for the black bat, and the site is protected under Natura 2000.
