Manětín Castle, Baroque château in Manětín, Czech Republic.
Manětín is a Baroque castle laid out in an L-shaped plan, with rooms decorated throughout with elaborate ceiling paintings and statuary. A grand staircase connects the different levels of its adjoining chambers.
After a devastating fire in 1712, Count Wenceslas Joseph Lazansky and his wife Maria Gabriela ordered a complete reconstruction of the building. This rebuilding gave the castle its present Baroque form.
The castle chapel served as the spiritual center for residents and contains religious artwork reflecting the life of the noble family. It shows how faith was woven into daily existence here.
Visitors can tour the castle on guided visits through private quarters, reception rooms, and the chapel adjoining the church. It is best to check availability of tours before visiting to ensure access to the interior.
The castle library holds a substantial book collection from 1800 to 1810, including complete runs of Viennese newspapers and scientific publications. This collection reveals the intellectual curiosity of the noble family.
