Okoř Castle

Okoř Castle is a medieval ruin located north of Prague featuring Gothic architectural elements positioned on a rocky hilltop. The remains showcase Gothic stone walls, a church structure, and a standing tower that together form the visible part of the former fortress.

The castle was founded in 1359 by a Prague merchant and passed through multiple hands over the centuries as ownership changed. By the 17th century it came under control of the Jesuits, marking a major shift in its role and use.

The ruins serve as a local landmark where visitors come to connect with the medieval past of the region. People walk through the site to witness the remains and understand how life looked during that era.

The ruin is best reached on foot, either by direct hiking or taking public transport from Prague to Okoř village. The site remains open year-round and exploring it requires only comfortable shoes to navigate the uneven terrain.

The castle features a late Gothic bastion from the 15th century with distinctive keyholes that reveal the advanced defensive techniques of that era. These architectural details preserve a piece of medieval engineering that visitors can still observe today.
