Jewish cemetery, Třebíč

The Jüdischer Friedhof is a historic burial ground on the northern slope of Hrádek hill featuring around 3,000 preserved gravestones. The site includes a ceremonial hall built in 1903 near the entrance that was used for funeral services.

The cemetery was founded in 1630 and served the Jewish community continuously until World War II. During Nazi persecution, many local residents were deported, ending the active use of the burial ground.

The gravestones display traditional Jewish burial customs through Hebrew inscriptions, religious symbols, and ornamental patterns that vary across different periods. You can see these crafted details on the carved stones as you walk through the grounds.

The cemetery is freely accessible and can be explored on foot along paths that cross the sloped terrain. Wearing sturdy shoes is advisable since the ground is uneven and can be slippery depending on the season.

Two memorial monuments stand on the grounds honoring Jewish soldiers from World War I and victims of racial persecution. These memorials offer moving insights into the different layers of tragedy in this place's past.
