Church of Saint Maurice, Romanesque church in Annín, Czech Republic

The Church of Saint Maurice stands on the Mouřenec hill above a bend of the Otava, 620 m high. Its flat-ceilinged single nave is joined to a square choir with a late-Gothic star vault, topped by a massive Romanesque tower; a small horseshoe apse with a Romanesque window adjoins the choir, and a Baroque octagonal chapel flanks the nave.

The structure emerged around the 13th century as one of the earliest religious buildings in the Annín region. Its founding is tied to the development of the medieval settlement.

The building bears the name of Saint Maurice, reflecting how religious structures shaped the identity of smaller Bohemian communities. It remains embedded in village life and serves as a reminder of the church's role in medieval daily existence.

The church stands on the wooded hill of Mouřenec at 620 m, half a kilometre southwest of Annín above the Otava river loop; access is on foot along paths from Annín or Rajsko. It is opened for regular guided tours and events run by the volunteer group Přátelé Mouřence, so visits depend on those occasions rather than fixed daily hours.

The church stands at 620 m on a promontory encircled on three sides by the Otava, and its fortified character shows in the charnel house built into the perimeter wall. Inside, a bell cast in 1329 survived both world wars; two more bells were added in 2003 from the Passau foundry of Rudolf Perner.
