Nový Hrad

Nový Hrad is a château with Renaissance and Baroque elements perched on a hilltop between Jimlín and Zeměchy, featuring three courtyards arranged around the structure. A late Gothic tower forms the focal point of the complex and anchors its overall design.

The castle was built between 1465 and 1474 by Albrecht Bezdružický of Kolovrat, establishing a new branch of his noble family. Its construction occurred during a period of significant transformation in Bohemian architecture and noble landholding.

The château displays some of the finest painted ceilings from the Renaissance and Mannerist periods, with elaborate decorative schemes visible across multiple rooms. These artistic embellishments reflect the refined taste of the nobility who once lived here.

The site is accessible on foot from the surrounding villages, with a walk through the rural countryside offering views across the landscape. Visits are arranged according to opening hours that vary by season, so checking ahead ensures a smooth experience.

Beneath the courtyards lies a network of medieval stables and storage spaces that remains accessible to visitors today. These underground chambers reveal practical details about how the complex functioned as a working estate beyond its public rooms.
