Krásný Dvůr Castle is a Baroque château in the Czech Republic that blends Renaissance and Baroque architectural elements. Its interior contains decorated rooms, entrance galleries, and valuable artworks by Czech and European masters.
A Gothic fortress on the site was rebuilt as a Renaissance manor in the second half of the 16th century, when Jan Mašťovský of Kolovraty united the two halves of the village in 1573. Count Hermann Czernin bought the estate in 1649; the present Baroque form comes from František Josef Czernin's rebuilding by František Maxmilián Kaňka, carried out from 1720 to 1725.
The name Krásný Dvůr means "Beautiful Courtyard". The château stayed in the Czernin family until 1945; Johann Rudolf had the chapel enlarged in 1783–1793 and the interior refurnished, and the collections of paintings, porcelain and historical furniture date from that period.
The castle is open from April through October, mainly on weekdays with a midday break. A guided tour is recommended to see the building and its collections thoroughly.
The 96-hectare English park, laid out in 1783–1793 under Johann Rudolf Czernin, was the first landscape garden in Bohemia. Its 26-metre obelisk of 1801 commemorates Archduke Charles's victory at Amberg in 1796, and the Pan Temple with four Ionic columns dates from 1783–1786.
