Excalibur City, shopping mall in Czech Republic on the border to Austria
Excalibur City is a shopping center located in Hatě near the border between the Czech Republic and Austria. The site features about 30 small stores, boutiques, salons, restaurants, and cafes, with a converted passenger aircraft serving as a distinctive display and housing a restaurant.
The shopping center was founded around 1998 and quickly became a popular destination at the border crossing. After a fire in December 2006, the site was repaired and later expanded, with new sections added shortly afterward.
The name Excalibur City references legendary sword mythology and creates a sense of adventure for visitors. The place hosts seasonal celebrations and events that bring families together, reflecting how communities use the space for shared experiences.
The center is easiest to reach by car since it is located right at the border with ample parking near the entrances. It is also accessible by local bus from Znojmo and offers free Wi-Fi throughout the site.
A decommissioned Soviet passenger aircraft, an Ilyushin Il-62 that operated for various airlines during the 1970s and 1980s, sits on the grounds and now houses a restaurant inside. This unusual airplane restaurant is a distinctive feature visitors encounter while exploring the site.
