Hrad Brníčko, Medieval castle ruin in Brníčko, Czech Republic.
Hrad Brníčko is a castle ruin located on elevated ground in the Czech village of Brníčko. The remains include preserved walls, parts of the former palace, and several massive fortification towers that show how the medieval defenses were arranged.
The castle was founded in the 1330s by the lords of Otaslavice and changed hands several times before being abandoned in 1513 under Ladislav of Boskovice. After centuries of neglect, archaeological excavations in the early 2010s helped document and preserve what remained of the structure.
Archaeological excavations conducted between 2010 and 2011 revealed architectural elements of the medieval defense system, leading to preservation efforts of the structure.
The ruin sits at about 380 meters above sea level and is reasonably accessible from the nearby town of Šumperk. Visit during dry weather for the best experience, as the paths across the grounds become muddy and difficult after rain.
The fortification system features two separate moats, with the outer one separating the lower courtyard from additional earthen defenses. This double line of protection reveals how seriously the medieval builders approached security at this location.
