Choustník Castle, Medieval castle ruin in Choustník, Czech Republic.
Choustník Castle is a fortress ruin on a hilltop in South Bohemia with stone walls and towers that still stand today. The remains consist of several building sections that show different phases of medieval construction.
The fortress was founded in 1262 and initially served as a defensive stronghold for the region. It later suffered severe damage from warfare and conflict that led to its present ruined state.
The ruins show how medieval castles were built in this region and what role they played in people's lives. You can still see today how the different rooms and walls fit together and understand how the fortress functioned when it was inhabited.
The site is accessible via walking paths that lead through the remaining walls and towers. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the terrain is uneven and some parts of the structures can be unstable.
The complex is divided into two distinct sections called horní hrad and Menší věž that come from different phases of medieval building history. This separation allows visitors to trace how the fortification developed across several centuries.
