The Minaret in Lednice is a 62-meter-tall observation tower featuring three galleries connected by a spiral stone staircase with 302 steps. The highest platform provides a commanding viewpoint across the entire region.
Construction of the tower took place between 1797 and 1804 under commission from Prince Alois Joseph I of Liechtenstein. Architect Josef Hardtmuth designed this unusual structure as part of the aristocratic estate.
The tower displays Islamic architectural details like columns and oriental decorations created by artists from Arab countries. This blend of European construction and Eastern decorative style makes it an unusual sight in the rural landscape.
The stairs can be steep and narrow, so wear comfortable shoes and allow time for the climb. On clear days, visitors can see up to 90 kilometers away and even glimpse Vienna.
The foundation required 500 wooden poles and 96 iron-clipped strings to distribute weight evenly across marshy ground. This innovative building method was necessary to ensure stability in such difficult terrain.
